Characteristics of gastroesophageal reflux disease in late pregnant women

Abstract:

Objective

To evaluate health-related quality of life in the late trimester of pregnant women with gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD).

Methods

Clinical data on obstetric history, frequency and intensity of GERD symptoms, history of GERD and health-related quality of life were collected of 82 third-trimester pregnant women admitted in Urumqi Friendship Hospital.

Results

62(76%)women had heartburn, 58(71%)were regurgitation and 20 were asymptomatic.Mean gestational week was(33.8±3.7)weeks; 35(43%)women had a family history of heartburn and/or regurgitation, and 57(70%)were asymptomatic before pregnancy.

Conclusion

The incidence of GERD symptoms was significantly increased during pregnancy.GERD was familial, and heartburn and/or regurgitation in third trimester pregnant women was associated with previous pregnancy.
