Correlation between perimenopausal symptoms and GERD symptoms

Objective

To analyze the relationship between the occurrence of symptoms and the clinical characteristics of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in perimenopausal women.

Methods

90 of GERD patients from January 2020 to January 2021 were selected and further divided into perimenopausal group (n=45 cases) and non perimenopausal group (n=45 cases) according to their menstrual conditions, perimenopausal symptom score (Kupperman) and GERD symptom score and gastric acid test were used to analyze the relationship between symptoms in both groups.

Results

The average age of perimenopausal group was higher than that of non menopausal group (P＜0.05); The perimenopausal symptoms (Kupperman score), GERD symptoms (GERD score) and Demester scores in the perimenopausal group were higher than those in the non perimenopausal group (P＜0.05); Pearson correlation analysis showed that the symptoms of perimenopausal hot flashes, sweating, insomnia and anxiety were positively correlated with the severity of GERD symptoms (r=0.261、0.280、0.375,　 P＜0.05).

Conclusion

Female perimenopausal symptoms are closely related to GERD symptoms. Clinicians need to improve their understanding of clinical characteristics to prevent misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis.
