Abstract:

Objective

To observe the efficacy of low-level radiofrequency in treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD)patients associated with nasal symptoms.

Methods

370 patients with GERD who underwent radiofrequency treatment during April 2006 to July 2007 were enrolled, and the nasal symptoms in the patients were analyzed before and after treatment.

Results

Among the 370 patients, 120 patients(32.4%)were associated with nasal symptoms, including watery nasal discharge, sneeze, nasal obstruction, snore, post nasal drip, and other discomfort. After treatment, the scores of different nasal symptom were lower than before treatment, and the differences were significant(P<0.01). The nasal symptom improved in 70 cases(59.9%), and the efficacy rate in the patients was 19.9% to 29.2%, remission rate was 27.8% to 50%, and inefficiency rate was 25% to 52.2%.

Conclusion

GERD can cause nasal symptoms, and esophagus low-level radiofrequency treatment is effective.
