Abstract:

Gastroesophageal reflux diseasese is a series of symptoms and complications caused by reflux of gastric and duodenal contents into the esophagus. Insulin resistance is a disorder of glucose regulation characterized by high insulin levels. Several studies have reported that gastroesophageal reflux disease is associated with insulin resistance. Insulin resistance may cause gastroesophageal reflux disease through hyperglycemia, obesity and other manifestations, while gastroesophageal reflux disease, especially erosive esophagitis, may affect insulin sensitivity through mechanisms related to inflammatory mediators, thus causing insulin resistance. This review discusses the association between gastroesophageal reflux disease and insulin resistance.

Key words: Gastroesophageal reflux disease, Insulin resistance, Erosive esophagitis
