Abstract:

Objective

To investigate characterictics of acid reflux and symptoms in perimenopausal women.

Methods

A retrospective study was made on 93 gastroesophageal reflux diseases (GERD) patients who were diagnosed in the people's Hospital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region from March 2017 to June 2018. Those patients were divided into perimenopausal group (43 cases) and non perimenopausal group (50 cases) basing on their menstrual conditions. GERD questionnaire survey, 24 h esophageal pH monitoring and high-resolution esophageal motility monitoring were used to analyze GERD related symptoms, acid reflux, and characteristics gastroesophageal motility.

Results

The average age range of perimenopausal women was higher than that of non menopausal women (P<0.05); The typical symptoms of GERD such as heartburn and acid regurgitation in perimenopausal women were higher than that in non menopausal women (P<0.05);Atypical symptom of belching and sleeping disorders in perimenopausal women was higher than that in non menopausal women (P<0.05); 24-hour esophageal acid reflux test score showed that the number of weak acid reflux (4<pH<7) and percentage of weak acid reflux (%) in the perimenopause group were significantly higher than those in the non perimenopause group (P<0.05); The resting pressure of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) in the perimenopause group was lower than that non perimenopause group (P<0.05), and the resting pressure of the upper esophageal sphincter (UES) was higher than perimenopause group (P<0.05) .

Conclusion

The weak acid reflux and LES, UES function alternation is main phenmamonon in perimenopause women, and main atypical symptoms are belching and sleep disorders.
